The medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is an engineered wood, by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres. It is a flexible material that shapes well with stable dimensions, so it will not expand or contract like solid wood does. Because there is no grain, a property typically found in wood, there is no tendency to split.
